408 Visa Support

Application for AJF endorsement of Temporary Activities Visa – (sub-class 408 Sporting Activities)

Commonwealth legislation relating to temporary visas requires that any application for a temporary visa of this category be endorsed by the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) as recognised by Australian Sports Commission.

For the sport of Jujitsu (including BJJ/Ne-Waza) this is the Australian Jujitsu Federation (AJF). The AJF is also the internationally recognised body in Australia for Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF).

Member Associations/Schools who are supporting a visa applicant should submit this Application for Endorsement.  If your association or school is not a member then you must become a member. You can apply for membership here.

Please note that if you are not already a member school then it may take at least 4 to 6 weeks and sometimes several months for your membership application to be finally approved by the AJF Board of Directors. Since one of the criteria for membership contained in the policy set by the AJF board is that the HoS (or delegate) and the visa applicant must both be accredited under the AJF National Coach Accreditation Program as a Level 2 coach and if they are not then:

a.    the HoS must enroll for and complete all the on-line modules of our Coach Accreditation course (including first aid and WWCC); and,

b.    the visa applicant must enroll for and complete all the on-line modules of our Coach Accreditation course.

This must be done before approval can be given.

One other part of the policy requires that the HoS must hold a Dan Grade (black belt), being at least a shodan or equivalent, in Jujitsu.If the head of your School does not satisfy this criterion, then to become a member, you must:

a. employ a shodan (or above) in jujitsu as Head Coach, Chief Instructor or equivalent; and,

b. always maintain a person of that status in the position of Head Coach, Chief Instructor or equivalent.

In addition, the AJF board needs to be satisfied that (the membership application, if required, and) the visa application is legitimate. For these reasons, it may take at several months to process a Visa Support application.

Be aware that, under the AJF constitution, the board may at its absolute discretion refuse to accept a membership application and shall not be required or compelled to provide any reason for such rejection. A similar policy applies to visa support applications.

We will not compromise our standards or short cut the process if all the membership and visa support policy criteria are not met.

Is the Supporter a member of an AJF Member School?

Does the Head of School (HoS) hold at least a NCAP Level 2 Coaching Accreditation issued by the AJF. See the Coach Accreditation page on our web site (https://www.jujitsu.com.au/accreditation/coach-accreditation).

The Supporter must be an Australian organisation or government agency or foreign government agency lawfully operating in Australia that administers or promotes sport or sporting events; and will meet their obligations to the Applicant and anyone who applies for the visa with the Applicant.

Please upload a copy of the formal written agreement/employment contract between the applicant and the Member School. This is a requirement for the Visa.

Does the applicant have a competition ranking or a recorded history of success in competition that is considered by the Visa Support Committee to be appropriate for the coaching role for which the applicant is being employed? The applicant must provide documentary evidence of a record of success in competition and/or success of someone whom they have coached. You can include links to web sites, You Tube, etc.

A "person of good character" means the applicant has no history of misconduct which is considered by the Visa Support Committee to be inappropriate for the coaching role for which the applicant is being employed? The applicant must disclose any prior:

1. Child‑Safety Misconduct History

  • Past investigations
  • Disciplinary actions
  • Suspensions or deregistrations
  • Notifiable incidents
  • Bans from coaching or child‑related work

2. Criminal History (Child‑Related)

  • Charges
  • Convictions and suspended sentences
  • Findings of guilt without conviction
  • Restraining orders involving under 18-year-olds

3. Sporting Integrity & Professional Conduct

  • Sanctions under integrity frameworks
  • Code of conduct breaches
  • Dismissals for behavioural reasons
  • Complaints from athletes or parents/caregivers
  • Loss of accreditation

The applicant must provide a statutory declaration as to these facts consistent with the AJF template provided here.
