Official Accreditation
National Offical Accreditation Program
On 21 March 2023, the Australian Jujitsu Federation (AJF) adopted a new approach to the delivery of our coach accreditation program. In May 2025, this approach was extended to official accreditation.
Mindful of the cost, time and effort, both in developing a new program and maximising the accessibility of that program, our courses are a combination of:
1. online education providing the theory components of the course and allowing participants to complete at their own pace, followed by:
2. face-to-face delivery – taking the theory to the mat.
The AJF provides the Jujitsu Australia Learning Centre (JALC) in collaboration with the Australian Sport Learning Centre (ASLC). This ensures our new approach supports the development, education and training of officials and empowers them to provide safe, fun and inclusive environments that focus on the needs of participants.
About Our New Program
School Membership of the AJF is a prerequisite. To find out more about the benefits of membership click here.
Online education – comprises the Community Officiating Essential Skills course developed by Australian Sports Commission together with courses developed by Sport Integrity Australia (SIA), Play by the Rules (PBTR) and courses developed by the AJF specifically for Jujitsu and Related Martial Arts.
Face-to-face delivery – once the online components are completed, candidates enrol in and attend a face-to-face session.
Available Levels of Accreditation
Level 1 Assistant Official: This is not an Accreditation Level but a way of describing someone who has completed the Level 2 online courses and is waiting for the face to face components and to be assessed. Candidates must attend a face to face session and be assessed before they can officiate matches by themselves.
Level 2 Official: Having completed the online training, candidates attend a 2 hour seminar and are assessed for their Level 2.
Level 2 Officials can officiate by themselves up to State level.
Level 3 Senior Official: Available to those with sufficient experience as a Level 2 in time and number of competitions officiated. Level 3 Officials can officiate up to National level.
Level 4 Advanced Official: Available to those with sufficient experience as a Level 3 in time and number of competitions officiated. Level 4 Officials can officiate up to International level.
Issue and Duration of Accreditation:
Level 2 Official.
Candidates must first complete the online course available in the Jujitsu Australia Learning Centre (JALC). This course comprises the theoretical components with modules including the Australian Sports Commission’s The Community Officiating Essential Skills course, some Sport Integrity Australia courses and the balance have been developed by the AJF Coaching Council on our own sport specific Jujitsu and Related Martial Arts topics.
In addition, you will need to independently do the usual First Aid course and have the relevant Working with Children check or equivalent in your own State or Territory.
To be able to do the on-line components of this course you will need to be registered with the Jujitsu Australia Learning Centre. This is a simple on-line process but if you encounter any problems, we have established a helpline to assist you with any registration type problems that you may encounter: just contact us at learning@jujitsu.com.au.
Once all courses have been completed and any external certificates (eg first aid) uploaded to the JALC, you may then apply to attend the next available face to face learning and assessment session.
These will usually be conducted on the day before a tournament, providing the opportunity to officiate at the tournament and complete your accreditation.
Before you exit the last stage of the on-line modules, you must ensure that you enrol in a face-to-face session – this is done as part of the online course. Your accreditation will not be completed until you have been assessed and passed at the face-to-face component.
To find out where and when our upcoming face to face sessions are being held, please check out our Events page.
Note: the National Championships are being held in Brisbane on August 3, 2025. A face to face session will be held at the venue the day before. In addition, an online seminar is being scheduled, currently Saturday 7 June 2025, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (AEST). Both of these sessions can be booked in the JALC as noted above.
